Pattern book, 1820-1850 (bulk).

Contains hundreds of designs, both transfer-printed and drawn free-hand, for decoration to be applied to pottery. Many are on paper that is water marked 1841, but some are dated in the 1820s. Includes recipes for various cements and pottery types. A pencil inscription records that the volume was given to Alfred Ball by his father on 14 September 1871. Also includes file folder of modern (i.e., 1968-1974) correspondence dealing with attribution to, and identification of, Joseph Ball.
